Many Parish Councils are supporting their communities by setting up Steering Groups to develop Parish Plans. Steering Groups should represent the wider community and should not be wholely Parish Council owned.

It is recommended that the Parish Councils receives regular reports of Parish Plan development and finally adopt the plan before publication.

A Parish Plan identifies the needs and aspirations of a community, and seeks to influence the way in which the community develops.

It should identify where it fits the strategies of principal bodies but it might also seek to influence these strategies in other areas.

Look out for Parish Plans newsletters published by Community First and make sure Community First Tel 01685 573334 is the first port of call for advice to your local steering group.

Those parishes that are developing or have published Parish Plans are identified in the list on our Councils' page where some will have websites where you can view the published plans. Examples of plans may also be obtained from Community First.
