Community Health and Wellbeing

The Worcestershire CALC Health and Wellbeing Project is designed to help your council to make a difference in the health, wellbeing and resilience of your community. Parish and Town Councils have the potential to substantially impact the lives of individuals. From improving accessibility and supporting social connections, enhancing access to critical information and services and encouraging physical activities there are many ways your council can take initiative.

As the most local tier of government, your council is uniquely placed to understand and address the specific needs of their residents. By focusing on community health and wellbeing, your council can help create vibrant, connected, and supportive environments that enhance the quality of life for everyone.

What is Community Health and Wellbeing

Community health and wellbeing go beyond physical health. It’s about fostering a sense of belonging, mental resilience, social inclusion, and access to resources that help residents live fulfilling lives. Key areas include:

  1. Physical Health: Promoting active lifestyles through safe walking routes, sports facilities, and community fitness programs.
  2. Mental Wellbeing: Reducing isolation, offering support networks, and raising awareness about mental health.
  3. Social Connectivity: Creating opportunities for residents to come together, share experiences, and support one another.
  4. Environmental Health: Providing clean, green spaces where people can relax, exercise, and reconnect with nature.

The 'Our Community Can (OCC) Legacy Toolkit' is to guide you through the process of delivering a Taster Session in your community to establish sustained activity with the help of your residents. A Taster Session gives residents the opportunity to try out new activities. This toolkit is informed using the reflections and learnings from the OCC project which was led by Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and aimed to support with community led physical or creative activity to decrease loneliness and social isolation.
